Everyone

This is a clear and unambiguous shorthand way to write or label a resistor value. You often see this notation on circuit diagrams because it takes up so little space.

  Resistance     Normal     BS1852
  0.47 Ohm   0.47 Ω   R47
  4.7 Ohm   4.7 Ω   4R7
  47 Ohm   47 Ω   47R
  470 Ohm   470 Ω   470R
  4 700 Ohm   4.7 kΩ   4K7
  47 000 Ohm   47 kΩ   47K
  470 000 Ohm   470 kΩ   470K
  4 700 000 Ohm     4.7 MΩ   4M7

You might encounter a code like this. 4K7J. The final letter denotes the resistor tolerance.
