If all the potential differences (voltages) across all the compolnets (in a closed loop) are added together, the total is equal to the power supply potential difference (voltage).
At a junction in a circuit, the sum of the currents entering the junction is equal to the sum of the currents leaving the junction.
You are simply counting the electrons entering and leaving.
It might help to picture counting cars, entering and leaving a road junction. This works in the same way. In this circuit, currents entering are given a minus sign. Currents leaving are given a plus sign.
