Power   =   Volts x Amps   =   V2 / R   =   I2 R

xkcd cartoonThanks xkcd.

The easiest way to measure power is to

  1. Measure the Voltage
  2. Measure the Current
  3. Calculate Volts x Amps

If you know the resistance and one or other of the voltage or current you can use these formulas: Power   =   V2 / R   =   I2 R

Beware: Make sure the voltage, current or resistance values are the ones that apply to the component or sub-system where you need the power.
