Stepper Motors come in various designs and configurations. This one has twelve permanent magnets on the rotor (the moving part). It has four pairs of electromagnets on the stator (the fixed part or the motor). These are arranged at carefully designed angles. If each electromagnet is energised in turn in the correct sequence, the rotor moves in small exact steps of 7.5 degrees. 48 steps are needed for one complete rotation. By energising the electromagnets alternately in pairs and singly, the motor can be made to move in half steps of 3.75 degrees giving even more precision in the motor movement.
