To get the total capacitance work out the formula below. This is tricky without a calculator.

CT = 1 / ( 1 / C1 + 1 / C2 + ... )

Using a calculator press the following keys... 1 / ( 1 / C1 + 1 / C2 + ... ) =

Of course you replace C1 and C2 with the capacitor values.

Capacitors in Series

With two capacitors CT   = C1 C2 / ( C1 + C2 )
